Saquon Barkley may be best known for racking up rushing yards for the Philadelphia Eagles, but the star running back has a secret: He’s an astute investor.

A recent piece in The Profile revealed that Barkley invested almost his entire $31.5 million rookie contract into long-term investments, including the S&P 500, preferring to live off profits from endorsement deals. Considering the S&P 500 has risen 144% since the NFL draft in 2018, that has turned out to be a smart investment.

He then went a step further in July 2021, when he declared that he’d take 100% of his endorsement money in bitcoin via payments platform Strike, which happened to be his first startup investment. Considering bitcoin was worth $32,000 at the time and is now worth over $111,000, that has also turned out to be a smart investment.

Strike was far from his final venture into venture capital, however. Barkley has also invested heavily in tech and AI startups in increments of $250,000 to $500,000, according to The Profile, and his portfolio reads like a who’s-who of unicorns. His investments include AI hotshot Anthropic, Peter Thiel-backed AI government contractor Anduril, Elon Musk’s Neuralink, and event betting platform Polymarket, just to name a few.

Forget Warren Buffett—the best investor of them all may also be a Super Bowl champion.—MR
